Hélène Devilleneuve studied at the CNSM in Paris, where she won First Prizes in oboe and chamber music. She won the Tokyo International Competition in 1994. In 1995, Hélène Devilleneuve was appointed Principal Oboe of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. With this orchestra, she has played under conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Gustavo Dudamel, M.W. Chung, Mikko Franck, Mareck Janowski, Kazuchi Ono, Esa Pekka Salonen, Sir Roger Norrington, Sir John Elliot Gardiner, etc...
She has also appeared as soloist in concertos by Martinu, Ligeti (double concerto with flute), Mozart, Messiaen (concerto for four), Haydn, Strauss, Kalliwoda, Vivaldi, etc., with various orchestras and at a number of prestigious festivals.
As a chamber musician, Hélène Devilleneuve regularly performs with partners such as Jean-Guihen Queyras, Gery Moutier, François-Frédéric Guy, MW Chung, Magali Mosnier, Julien Hardy, Nicolas Baldeyrou, Antoine Dreyfuss, the Quatuor Sine Nomine, the Trio Euterpe and the Trio Wanderer, at various festivals in France and abroad.
Contemporary music is also an important part of her musical life. Since 1991 she has played in the Court-Circuit ensemble founded by Philippe Hurel and Pierre André Valade. She has premiered works by Martin Matalon (Trame), Marc André Dalbavie (Interlude), Gérard Grisey, M. Jarrel, A. Schaatun, A. Markeas, I. Fedele, Durieux and H. Dufour. In May 2022, Hélène Devilleneuve is the dedicatee and premieres Philippe Hurel's concerto with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France.
She has recorded Carter's sonata (Classica), Beethoven's Quintet with François-Frédéric Guy (Diapason d'or, "ffff", "Choc" du Monde de la Musique), Brod's chamber music for oboe and harp, Boccherini's concerti with the Solisti Veneti, and several recordings with MW Chung, Kazuchi Ono, M. Janowski (Deutche Grammophon, Harmonia Mundi). His latest CD, 'French music for oboe and piano' with Rikako Murata, released by Klarthe, has been a great success.
Hélène Devilleneuve teaches sight-reading for woodwind instruments at the Conservatoire de Saint-Maur and the CNSM in Paris.She also teaches chamber music at the Paris Conservatoire, and is invited to take part in masterclasses all over the world. Hélène Devilleneuve is a tester for Buffet-Crampon oboes.
