Juan Ferrer (Montserrat, Valencia) is one of the most versatile and active Spanish clarinetists of his generation, and the first from Spain to serve on the jury of the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. He has also been a juror in Ghent (Belgium), Versailles (France), the Asia and Oceania Competition in Taipei (Taiwan), Carlino (Italy), Porto, Lisbon, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Spain.
A performing artist for the renowned brands Buffet-Crampon Paris and Vandoren Paris, Ferrer has been principal clarinet of the Galicia Symphony Orchestra (OSG) since 1994. He plays on Buffet Crampon RC Prestige clarinets.
His career as a performer has taken him across the globe as a soloist (Weber 1 & 2, Copland, Mozart, Debussy, Oscar Navarro, Pacho Flores—the last dedicated to him) with major orchestras such as the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, Extremadura Symphony, Murcia Symphony, Wuppertal Symphony, Juan José Landaeta Symphony, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Paraguay.
He has also appeared with leading wind ensembles such as the Royal Band of the Belgian Guides, and the symphonic bands of Bilbao and A Coruña. His chamber music and recital work has brought him to Russia, China, Taiwan, Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Brazil, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Argentina, throughout Spain, and widely across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Alongside these roles, he has given recitals and masterclasses around the world, working with students across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. His teaching has recently been recognized with an invitation to join the Simón Bolívar Foundation (El Sistema) as an international professor, with three annual residencies beginning in the 2017–18 season and continuing through 2025.
