Young Chinese clarinetist/Principal clarinetist of China Philharmonic Orchestra
The esteemed American clarinetist Ricardo Murales once commented on his performance: "Exquisite technique and sweet tone." He graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music, Temple University, and the High School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music, majoring in clarinet. He studied under principal clarinet of the Philadelphia Orchestra Ricardo Morales, the late Donald Montanaro, who was former assistant principal clarinet of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and principal clarinet of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Michael Rusinek. During his studies, he also received guidance from several clarinetists including Anthony Mcgill (principal clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera House), Yehuda Gilad (professor of The Colburn School), Zhai Yaoguang (principal clarinet of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra), Keith Lipson (principal clarinet of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra), and Professor Wu Yuanfu (the High School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music). During his studies in the United States, he served as the principal clarinet of an orchestra many times and participated in many tours with the orchestra. Xue Guangyao has collaborated with several world-renowned musicians, such as Simon Rattle, Charles Dutoit, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Yu Long, Tan Dun, Vladimir Jurowski, Corrado Rovaris, Ari Pelto, Qin Liwei, Lu Siqing, and etc.
Main artistic practice as follows: involvement in the recording of the album "LOVE, A BEAUTIFUL FORCE" that was nominated for the 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020. In November 2021, he performed with the 2021 conductor Yu Ji a symphony concert titled the "Spring Storm - Yu Ji and Xue Guangyao Perform Mozart", which was highly praised by the industry. In 2022, he participated in the recording of CCTV's "Cloud Performance" event of hundreds of Chinese and international musicians to celebrate the New Year and welcome the Winter Olympics. In 2021, he performed in the opening concert of the Chinese Music Golden Bell Awards. From 2020 to 2021, he participated in a series of season performances such as the China Philharmonic Orchestra's 20th Anniversary Tour. In April 2019, he successfully held a solo concert. In March 2015, he participated in the "Curtis on tour" with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra as principal clarinet in the United States. On February 15, 2015, representing the Curtis Institute of Music, he participated in a concert at the Kennedy Center performing works by Russian composers from the 19th to 20th centuries.
In May 2012, he participated in the "Curtis on tour" with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra in the Germany. In October 2014, he was invited by the esteemed composer David Ludwig to perform his works at Lenfest Hall. In November 2010, he participated in the series of the Central Conservatory of Music’s 70th anniversary concerts representing the affiliated high school as a student who has won international competitions. In June 2011, he participated in the concert for winners of the 7th Mravinsky International Competition for Youth. Awards and prizes: First Prize in Professional Woodwind Group of the Beijing International Wind Music Festival. First prize in clarinet category of the 7th Mravinsky International Competition for Youth. First prize in woodwind category of the Temple University Concerto Competition.
